Museum Sidi Zitouni - Djerba

Bordering the Greater Houmt souk and the road to the hotel zone, the Museum of Arts and Popular Traditions occupies the former Zawiyya Sidi Zitouni.
The museum, built in 1970, took advantage of the beauty of the whole to showcase its content which presents some aspects of traditional life of the islanders Jerbiens and, through a collection of costumes for ceremonies in which one perceives , beyond the apparent unity, a lot of diversity, the result of the contribution of each locality, each holding to differentiate itself from its neighbor by color, or while wearing the garment in the shape of the critical hat.
A collection of silver jewelry enamelled tells us the good old days when the Jewish craftsmen of Hara Kbira and Houmt Souk, Jerba were one of the main foci of the Tunisian goldsmiths.
The reconstruction of a pottery workshop in the old disused tank us into the hidden world where the potter quietly created its multiple objects. A gallery which displays objects glazed Guellala, and two courses where a series of containers of different sizes and shapes close up the theme of the pottery.
The reconstruction of a traditional kitchen illustrates the use of some earthenware dishes.
Finally a complete collection of all woodwork, giving an idea of the furniture that was used in the interiors of homes jerbiennes.
